Snuffy, the link you posted is a "not found" when I try it. Do you know what the update is or where I may obtain it? Thanks.

@GD no need to do a fresh install unless you are not on 8.1 just use the update only works a treat on 8.1 x64 although very slow when installing you need patience  :occasion14:   :occasion14:

BTW I had StarDock start8 installed and it left that still fully working.

Strangely 'the other side' is the same as the other side ... update downloaded but has not installed, a load of office updates installed, was prompted to restart, did so and have not crossed to the 'other side'  ... trying to investigate WTF is going down ... I'll report back :dontknow:

OK ... after much  :dontknow: and :banghead:  ... I got a task bar prompt to install 1 new update  :dontknow:

Mainstream media has started reporting this:

Do you have Windows 8.1? You better get on the ball, or no more updates for you!

During Patch Tuesday, Microsoft updated 8.1. If you’re set to automatic updates, you already have it, and you’re set. But if you’re doing manual updates and haven’t gotten to it yet, get to it now.

In an attempt to stop the fragmenting of Windows 8.1, Microsoft will stop allowing updates to computers that aren’t keeping up with them. So if you don’t make the current update with 30 days, you’ll stop getting updates altogether.

The last date? By May Patch Tuesday, which is May 13.

This is important, and you should get to it now, if you have 8.1. If you don’t, you leave your unpatched computer wide open to attacks.

I think maybe you will have to go in a type of progression.

Which makes since to me. And probably save a lot of headaches.  :)

My understanding is that the OEMs offer the Updates ... Dell has a special program that if you install (they do ask and provide info to why) it is almost exactly like M$ Autoupdates....

Just installed OEM Windows 8.0 Pro - 87 updates all from M$ to start with.... so until M$ approves they come from M$

so lots of time to do  and stay OEM. - Dell Official OEM

So my guess is if I buy a windows 8.1.oem disk for a pc that I will be able to upgrade to the spring update and the new patches to keep receiving updates even if I don't install  the standard 8.1 pro Oem after the May dead line I would assume from your posts?

I'm sure you can update any time, this is being tested on OUT OF DATE - Notification MODE. Pure OEM. I could always use\

http://windows.micro...roduct-key-only

but then I'd miss out on all the wasted time and learning ability.

:) :)

Seems any Window 8.1 RTM key will work on "upgrade with product key only".  even if your on OEM.

to update...
