Today I decided to upgrade my W8.1 to W10 and everything was running fine and smooth. After an hour I decided to buy W10 Pro key from the store and I saw the price was 120$USD so I purchased it. After purchasing the key I thought it would be a good idea to do a clean install from the recovery option. After I reinstalled windows it said that my key was blocked... but I just purchased it.

Can someone here help me out? I feel like I've been ripped off, badly.

Here's my purchase to prove that I paid for it:

And this is what it says in the activation section (screenshots are kinda big for posting here)

And this is the price in the store now after reinstalling windows 240$USD:

Where did you buy it from? Did you buy it from the Microsoft Store? Because if you bought it from a shady place, then yeah you got ripped off. If you DID buy it from Microsoft, then you can simply contact them to sort all this out, you have proof you bought and paid for the license, so you should be good.

If you had a legit key for Windows 8.1, the upgrade should have automatically activated. So it sounds like your Windows 8.1 key was no good either.

I got it from microsoft store. Could you link me to where I could directly contact them about this? there's so many links but not of them helped me out in windows and on microsoft site.

I got my laptop in 2012 it came with W8 legit key. It's an Asus RoG laptop and when I upgraded to W10 the key was working fine.

Come now read the original post... YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY A WINDOWS 10 KEY. IT IS FREE.

THE  Key as issued by MS is

1. a generic KMS - Retail Activation key = VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

then after IP and TP the key is NOT NEEDED TO INSTALL OR ACTIVATE.

2. MS also has stated any valid Genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 key will activate the new

Releases of Windows 10.

and you can validate any Windows 10 key with several Legit Options.

#1 is VAMT 3.1 on a Windows 10 System.

MS offers many How To's

and i recommend you or anybody use them.

There are 2 things I notice:

1. You upgraded your Win 8.1 to Win 10

Probably your pre-installed windows version on your laptop was Win 8 Home edition.

2. You purchased a legit key from the MS store.

The key you purchased is a Win 10 Pro key and therefore doesn't match your installed windows.

As Keymaster already questioned & referred to ... you have to install the Windows 10 with a Win 10 Pro image for which the key will work.

You can find the Engilsh-US  ESD file over here:

http://fg.v4.b1.down...cf86b2d202e.esd

Other versions exist ...

If you had the home edition of Win 8.1, then when you first updated to win 10 you updated to win 10 home.

You can not do a Win 10 pro clean install from a recovery from win 10 home. You need to clean install from an Win 10 Pro disk or USB stick.

If you can start Windows you can also try to change your key in the update parameters of Win 10.

This is within the first year, and even Pirates versions of Windows 7 - Windows 8/8.1 have been given a Legit

Activation.

I have upgraded at minimum of 10 100% Genuine Pirate Versions and everyond upgraded and is now legit and Activated with a NEW KEY.

I think he bought a early Preview Key not a Genuine Retail Key

his error code also

f your activation status is Windows is not activated, it might mean you didn't upgrade to Windows 10 before reinstalling. If this is the case, buy genuine Windows from the Windows Store to activate it successfully, or go back to your previous version of Windows and then use the free upgrade offer to Windows 10.
