The good news is that taking the update route gets you many extra years of support. If you move to Windows 8.1 your OS will be kept up to date until 2023, while Windows 10 nabs you an extra two years of patches until 2025.
Unless MS tricks you by sticking one of thier stupid assed tricks into one 8.1's updates........ I don't trust MS as far as I can throw my car

I had a support contact with Microsoft professional suport for Windows specialists. I have legitimate 8.0 enterprise installed on one of my machines not even in a volume license necessitated setting. So yes, you wouldn't necessarily need to pay.. but you can't upgrade without a volume licensed key that has a contract of its rights to upgrade or downgrade appropriately. which is usually the case in volume license keys you need to pick what support contract goes along with the purchase. enterprise keys by default are volume license to those unaware
I moved all my Windows 8 OS's to Enterprise 8.1 and MS will not upgrade to Windows 10 unless you buy.
so that is the best part. even if you do not think you need Enterprise. upgrade to an STOP all the Windows 10 CRAP.

Yes, I have Windows 8.0 Enterprise MAK on one system and Windows 8.1 Enterprise MAK and Windows 10 Enterprise OEM,
Windows 10 Enterprise MAK
and the constant POPUP to upgrade on the Windows 8.0 and 8.1 is GOD ALMIGHTY ANNOYING.
so I finally BLOCKED that AD. I still get SUPPORT. and to Downgrade all one needs to do is upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.
what a frigging joke.

Simple way to say secure Linux lol, really that is our best way. But like a lots of us know even though ppl hate M$ so much, they will stay with windows or go to Mac b4 linux.
I never could figure out why people hate MS. Is it because they are successful? Everyone likes you until you make something of yourself, then you are public enemy number 1.
