I just rebuilt my main computer from parts found at the local surplus house. I have a working relationship with the owner and he saves me some of the goodies he finds so the cost is about 20% of new and he buys some of my old

parts and computers.

The latest is a GA-Z170-H3DP Gigabyte motherboard with 16GB of DDR4@2400Ghz.  This unit has an Intel I7-6700K running @ 4.7 Ghz,

my next step is to install 64GB of Gskill DDR4 3700 when enough cash is saved.

The system drive "C" is a Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 NVMe, read/write is 2212/1223.

Drive "P" is a 512GB Samsung 950 Pro M.2 NVMe for processed images. R/W is 2599/1561

Drive "I" is a 1TB Samsung 840 EVO with rapid mode enabled for working image storage. R/W is 8341/7404

Drive "S" is a 2 TB WD HDD for long term local storage of whatever. R/W 39/64

If I can find an Asus Z170-WS board, Asus claims the OC goes to 5.2Ghz with the I7-6700K and it has two M.2 NVMe slots which should come close to saturating the NVMe.

I'm using a Corsair H110I liquid cooler which is holding max core temp at under 58C at max load. The new Samsung SM961 M.2 when it is released should max out the NVMe.

I tried running a Swiftec cooler a couple of years ago but after several pump failures I gave up on them.

My RAW images are running between 60/70 MB and since I have switched to Piccure+ (about 90 seconds per image) to process them it takes a lot of HP. One of these days the Nvidia K420 Quadro board will have to be replaced also,

as it is the slowest component in the system.

Hi RobrPatty; I could not find the F6a bios on Gigabytes webpage. Did it come from a third party? What are the fixes?
Thanks for the heads up though the latest I can find is the F5.

I changed the link so you could see where the F6 bios came from. This is where I get all the latest bios's for my gigabyte board.

FYI: I now have three personal computers and three others with a Corsair H110 liquid cooler installed. I would like to impress on the DIY builders among us the results of doing this. At 100% load the highest core temps I have seen from any of the computers has been 66 deg C. compared to 100 to 105 C with the standard air cooling. Most of these computers are running in excess of 3.8 to 4.7 Ghz. I guess I'm sold and I will never build another DIY without the Corsair cooler.

I can't get the image to insert when I select the image icon. I am inserting a link to a dropbox .jpg
The whole BW9 locks up and I have to exit out of the network. here is the link, lets see if that works.
