Just got a new laptop Windows 10 Home

I used to be a computer tech so I know a few things, but havent kept up to date I do admit, stopped working 4 years ago now

First of all its not as bad as I thought it would be

Its actually pretty similar to windows 7

There are a few things I have found so far, this is day 3, that are annoying to me anyway

The mouse, i have a laptop Elan drivers, under the properties of the mouse I do not have an option to disable the tapping feature

I have attached a image to show what I mean

Does anyone know how I can get the checkbox to disable it, or know of another way to disable it?

There is just a question mark to tell me what it is but no settings icon or checkbox

This is my number one annoyance, I know Im being picking but when I rest my hand while Im reading something it starts highlighting things etc

Can I maybe use an older driver for ELAN?

Maybe there is another program I can use to control the touchpad mouse?

I know I can disable it all the way but then I wouldnt have a mouse, since I am in bed most of the time using a regular mouse is not an option

There is also the OneDrive that I cant uninstall. Previous versions of Win10 you were able to but like I said the computer is 3 days old windows 10 home edition. I do think I disabled it so its just sitting there taking up space. But I would like to uninstall it if I could

The start menu it is nice its back but it has apps on the right side and I cant seem to make that go away. I deleted all of them but its size it twice the size of the usual one. there is taskbar and start menu properties but hey look it no start menu tab, another picture is attached to show that

I know I complain about the small things and Im sorry like I said just annoyances that Im only in day 3 of dealing with

My friend gave me a program classic shell and I am not sure how many of my annoyances that will help if any

thanks alot for any ideas

highlighting can be controlled this way.

If you open regedit.exe and and add "Start_NotifyNewApps" as a DWORD (32-bit) Value with a value of "0" to the following path and reboot, it should disable the highlighting:

 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Complete Remove and Uninstall OneDrive

It’s impossible to manually uninstall and remove OneDrive in Windows 10 by the step-by-step guide below. Run the commands to be executed in the process below in an Administrator Command Prompt.

Uninstall OneDrive

  1. Terminate any process of OneDrive by running the following command:
    taskkill /f /im OneDrive.exe
  2. Uninstall OneDrive app by running one of the following command:

    In 32-bit Windows 10 (x86):

    %SystemRoot%\System32\OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall

    In 64-bit Windows 10 (x64):

    %SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall

One you ran the above command, OneDrive desktop app is uninstalled completely and cleanly. Most of the time, no progress bar nor confirmation dialog is shown. However, when you search for OneDrive, the app no longer be found.

My research found a registry change that MAY disable your touchpad click issue.

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ELANTECH\SmartPad

Changed Tap_Enable to 0

Changed Tap_Activate_Enable to 0

HKCU\Software\ELANTECH\SmartPad

Changed Tap_Enable to 0

Changed Tap_Activate_Enable to 0

Uninstalling Groove Music

Option 1 (using power shell)

1) Run powershell with admin rights (win key & x)
2) type "Get-AppxPackage –AllUsers"
3) Find Zume Music, yes its called that lol
4) Under packagefullname, copy the name
5) type remove-AppxPackage PackageFullName, replace packagefullname with the package name you copied
6) hit enter, should finish with no errors
7) reboot

Option 2 (using ccleaner easy way)

1) Run ccleaner
2) Goto tools tab
3) click uninstall
4) find groove music app, right click and select uninstall
5) Thats it, also you can use CC to uninstall most other apps (not all though)

It looks like you got everything straightened out except the start menu. If you still want to fix it, I recommend Classic Shell. It's free and give you a Windows 7 style menu. I use it on all the computers I build.
